Oh, Hello: Three-Star DT Kaleb Artis Commits to Penn State

*Frank Sinatra plays*

Height/Weight: 6-foot-4, 290 pounds
Hometown/High School: Fresh Meadows, NY (St. Frances Prep)
Ranking: ★★★ (0.8850 247Sports Composite — No. 430 Overall)
Notable Offers: Auburn, Florida State, Notre Dame, Texas A&M, and Virginia

The Nittany Lions had been keeping tabs on Artis since he camped in Happy Valley back in June 2019. An offer for the New York City product finally came in November 2020, with Penn State becoming immediate players. Once the NCAA lifted the dead period in June, Artis made three official visits: one to Auburn, one to Virginia, and one to Penn State. In the end, the Nittany Lions were the choice, with Artis making the call for Penn State on July 4.

Artis is a bit raw as a player, but physically there aren’t many other defensive tackle prospects out there with his traits. He’s already a big kid — standing 6-foot-4 with a 7-foot-0 wingspan, and coming in at 290 pounds — but he has the frame to hold a lot more weight. With him likely finding a home as a 1-Tech, he’ll have little to no issue playing at 315+ pounds.

Development wise, Artis will need some time. Like many defensive tackle, he doesn’t project as someone who will make an impact year one or two. But he has the makings of a top-tier, anchoring presence as a 1-Tech.
