THE HIGHLIGHTS
THE TALE
The 6-foot-6, 320-pound Roye landed an offer from Penn State back in February 2021, and once the NCAA lifted the dead period, he made visits to Happy Valley on June 18 (officially) and July 31 (unofficially). Following his summer visits, Roye looked like he was going to end up at Maryland according to the 247Sports Crystal Ball. But as we should know by now, recruiting is fluid, as Roye instead made the call for Penn State.
OUTLOOK
Roye’s the definition of a project offensive tackle. Big kid, long, solid athlete, but he needs a whole lot of refinement. I generally don’t like to compare prospects, but he reminds me of current Penn State redshirt freshman Ibrahim Traore, who had many of the same characteristics — including the “raw” feature. So while we shouldn’t expect to see Roye compete for a starting spot anytime soon, he’ll be a big ol’ piece of clay for offensive line coach Phil Trautwein to work with.
