Women’s Soccer

The women’s soccer team advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA tournament with a thrilling 4-3 win over Saint Louis on Sunday. PSU took a 2-0 lead early in the first half on a pair of goals by Kaitlyn McBeam and appeared to be cruising toward a win, but the Billikens scored three unanswered goals to take a 3-2 lead with 20 minutes remaining in regulation. Mieke Schiemann tied the game with just three minutes left in regulation off a header set up by a free kick.

In the first overtime, Payton Linnehan found the back of the net for the Nittany Lions off a beautiful feed from Olivia Borgen between two Saint Louis defenders. Penn State held on in the second overtime period for the win and its first trip to the Elite Eight since 2018. The Lions will travel to Clemson to take on the No. 1 seed Tigers for a spot in the College Cup.

Upcoming Game: Saturday at Clemson (1pm)

Women’s Volleyball

The volleyball team beat Michigan State (3-1), Northwestern (3-0), and Maryland (3-0) over the last five days to improve to 20-8. Over the three matches, Penn State was led by Jess Mruzik (46 kills), Camryn Hannah (7 aces), Zoe Weatherington (13 blocks), Mac Podraza (11.3 assists/set), and Gillian Grimes (3.2 digs/set). Podraza reached 5,000 career assists in the win over Michigan State.

The Nittany Lions will conclude their regular season with a match at Ohio State Friday night. There is no conference tournament in women’s volleyball, so this will be the final match until the NCAA tournament begins next week.

Upcoming Game: Friday at Ohio State (7pm)
