A great individual PSU performance, but soccer team falls

4

The men's soccer team fell to Syracuse 2-1 yesterday, but Andrew Wolverton was incredible in goal. He had 8 saves, but it seemed like he was everywhere. It reminded me of Tim Howard against Belgium. Syracuse controlled the first half, but Penn State came out strong to start the second half. A Sryacuse mistake led to a PK and PSU went up 1-0. Unfortunately, PSU went into bunker mode and SU tied the game shortly after that. Then with less than 10 minutes left in the game Wolverton made his only mistake and SU took the lead on a tight angle shot that snuck in. (I couldn't see it well since the SU soccer field has horrible sight angles, including a press box that blocks the view for many seats and poles for speakers, that weren't even on, that obstruct the view. It looked like he got caught cheating trying to stop a cross and couldn't quite recover.) Penn State had one good opportunity on a shot that went wide with a couple minutes to go, but that was it. Overall, it was a good season. Penn State needs some more size in the middle of the field and more speed on the wings. Penn State seemed to have better foot skills, but Syracuse was faster and more aggressive. One thing is for sure, next year's GK will have some big shoes to fill.

Pegula Wanted Bills-Jets To Be Played At Penn State

New Buffalo Bills owner Terry Pegula wanted this weekend's Bills-Jets game, moved from Buffalo due to feet upon feet of snow filling Ralph Wilson Stadium still, moved to Beaver Stadium. The NFL nixed the idea due to the lack of replay booths and other sideline technologies.

Beautiful Save by Eamon McAdam Saves a Michigan Goal

1

Penn State goalie and New York Islanders draft pick, Eamon McAdam, made this miraculous save to keep the Wolverines from pulling ahead 2-0 in the first period. Since then, the Nittany Lions have taken a 3-1 lead on the strength of goals from Gardiner, Scheid, and Bailey. It was Bailey's ninth goal of the season, which moves him into a tie for first place in the country for goals scored this season.

Men's Soccer Survives First Round

Frustrating and annoying first half as a spectator. 24 degrees and windy. As Maple said Hartwick could be tough and their goal 45 seconds in to the second half (going against the wind) sparked the tempo in the PSU team. PSU spent the better part of the next 15 minutes in the Hartwick end. Not the least of which was because any Hartwick goal kicks/punts rarely passed midfield. After Mikey scored on a breakaway they were soon playing with a (well-deserved) man advantage. Gravatt's shot at 74 minutes was a thing of beauty -- left footer curving into the upper right 90. The Hartwick goalie didn't stand a chance. After that PSU dropped into serious defensive mode. Personally I hate that because it allowed Hartwick to get the ball inside the PSU box several times - one of which was a shoulder ball that could have easily been a hand-ball and resulted in a PK. In my mind Hartwick should have been playing near the end down two men -- their #16 neck-wrung Conner on one series and the ref didn't do a thing. Hartwick fans did show up though -- three buses full of the team and supporters. long cold ride home though.

Marcus Luttrell Speech to 'Bama Football Team

You're probably thinking, why would this guy post a video of a former Navy SEAL speaking to the 'Bama football team, this is Penn State! Well, A) it's moving as hell and B) he speaks of Lt. Michael Murphy, a PSU grad. Just thought I'd share with everyone here.
